Day 54 to 69 – Annapolis to NYC

We’ve covered a lot of ground since our last post…let’s go!

From Annapolis we traveled north towards Baltimore. Teri found us a quiet anchorage for one night, then on to Nabbs Creek Marina, home for our boat while we travelled to Little Rock, AR to visit with Mandy, Jauan, and our 4 month old grandson Eli.

There is one picture of the broken Baltimore Bridge. It’s taken from quite a distance but the you can see that most of the bridge is missing.

Our visit with Mandy, Jauan and Eli was awesome! Eli provided lots of entertainment demonstrating new behaviors complete with smiles and giggles. There was a coffee plant tour, bourban, a trip to the pool, plenty of good food and the opportunity to sleep in a legitimate bed!! Mandy, Jauan, and Eli are fantastic hosts!

We returned to our boat on June 4th and after a nights rest, continued north to the top of Chesapeake Bay. We stayed at the beginning of the C&D canal at a marina called Chesapeake City Marina. The marina was vibrant and the town was a combination of fun and quaint. We stayed two nights.

We traveled east on the C&D canal to the Delaware River, turned south, avoided some large ships and enjoyed a comfortable ride to Cape May. We stayed at the South Jersey Marina for 2 nights.

On June 8th we ventured north in the Atlantic to Atlantic City. We stayed at the Farley State Golden Nugget Marina which was large and loud! Lots of partying.  We walked through a casino or two and also strolled on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, of course. Not something I would ever choose to do again. We stayed two nights waiting for a good weather window for the ocean trek to Great Kills Marina on Staten Island.

The trip up the Jersey coast was a little rougher than we wanted but we got it done.  A highlight was the moment we first noticed the New York City skyline. Wow!  We’ve flown and driven to NYC many tines but never have we been so awestruck by the freaking size of the city! One of our favorite moments of the trip so far.

The Great Kills marina is a yacht club of do-it-yourself people. They were super welcoming! A great place to provision before heading to Lady Liberty for a few pictures and then Liberty Landing – a marina in Jersey City that offers amazing views and access to NYC.

You are supposed to have found a buddy boat before heading to the Statue of Liberty. We hadn’t. But, as luck would have it, as we were approaching the Statue, another Looper boat appeared (All In). To our surprise they were from Gulf Shores, AL which is about 30 minutes from where we live! We communicated and then swapped pictures.

We took a ferry into the City and walked the financial district and Broadway.

Next we begin our ride up the Hudson!
