Our voyage to Myrtle Beach, SC was interesting. At a little over 50 miles, the distance was easy, but it took a while because of the number and length of slow zones.
The beginning of the journey was a really enjoyable cruise through the Waccamaw River. This ecosphere seemed nuanced and intricate. Peaceful on the surface, but teeming with life energy!
That said, as we closed in on Myrtle Beach the “energy” had a distinct change of character. The canal narrowed and the number of nut-job boaters increased exponentially! It didn’t help that it was a nice day at the beginning of the season and a weekend!!
The concentration of homes with boats along the canal makes this waterway powerboat pandemonium! Cruisers carelessly unaware of their wake, 60 mph jetskis, pontoon boats with drunken skippers and a super narrow section described as the rock piles! We would never choose to do this bit on a weekend again!
We timed our arrival to coincide with the Marina closing because they were full, but Teri worked her magic and got them to allow us to stay at the gas dock for the evening. The marina administrator was Angela so I’m not sure if Teri pulled her, “I love you” stunt. 😎
It was my birthday so we went to an excellent restaurant (Clark’s) that was only a few feet from the dock. How good was this restaurant…? They had an appetizer which consisted of brown sugar and maple syrup dipped crispy bacon hanging from hooks and dripping on a croissant! Kill me now my life is complete!
But wait, there’s more! Mandy and Jauan figured out where we would be, found a dessert place that specializes in PUDDING! and had Uber eats deliver a flight of four puddings to our boat! And surprise….one of the ingredients was peanut butter!!
Needless to say, I finished my 62nd year in a full and complete sugar coma!!
