Today we made the difficult decision to leave Apalachicola for Anclote Key. It’s more than 130 nautical miles of open ocean and the seas are churning 4 to 6 with an occasional 20 footer!!! 😉 Really sketch, but if we don’t cross today, we will likely be delayed for more than a week! So, we’re trawlering along at 8 knots. It’s far from relaxing, but neither of us felt unsafe. Other than regular thumps from waves hitting the tunnel, the boat is handling the sea state well. Teri even took a nap.

About 2pm Teri pointed her iPhone out the galley porthole. Unbelievably she caught dolphins leaping out of the water! What are the chances! We ventured to the bow and found 5 dolphins playing in our bow waves! Awesome!!
Â
As predicted by several weather apps, the wind ebbed significantly about 2 hours before sunset. Not too long thereafter we throttled up to our regular cruise speed hoping to make our anchorage by midnight!
Â
What would our crazy crossing be without equally crazy food choices! Breakfast was coffee of course, followed by liver meat sticks and apple cinnamon chips. Next we snacked on carrots, celery, and cheese. Then, since it was 5 o’clock we split a beer. Once that was done, ice-cream…two helpings!! Lastly, Teri used the coffee maker to make each of us a bowl of oatmeal. Living the dream!

We anchored at Anclote Key at around midnight. Whew! That was an EXHAUSTING day!!
