We got up at 7am, early-ish for us. It was a beautifully calm morning and we enjoyed putting the Bimini back up, filling the water tank, and a few other chores while the wind wasn’t blasting us.
The day was an easy 35nm. There was still plenty of wind again. To convey just how strong the it was, I took a difficult high zoom shot towards the Gulf. I sure wouldn’t have wanted to be running the outside channel!!
Teri’s been enjoying all the dolphin encounters. I think she’s starting to think like a dolphin 🙂 Today she figured out they don’t always leave after riding our bow wave…they slide under the boat and ride the pressure wave that’s a combination of the Port and Starboard hulls. Neat trick! Equally neat was watching my fearless co-captain crouch precariously from the sugar scoop to capture the video evidence! For those who don’t know, the sugar scoops are great while anchored, but strictly off limits while underway.
In the Fort Myers area we traversed a section informally called the Miserable Mile. It’s a very narrow channel which can be packed with all manner of boats – power and sail. The channel is super narrow! Venture 10 feet either side of it and you’ll have a grounding story to talk about 😉
It was Friday but still early in the day so the boat traffic wasn’t too bad. That said, a high speed catamaran went by at something like 80 mph! Kind of ridiculous…but I’d really like to get me one of those!
We were safely docked at Tarpon Point Marina by 1:30pm. This gave us plenty of time to tidy up a bit for our first guests!! Woot! Aunt Karen and Uncle Leonard came to visit us. We had a cocktail on the boat then enjoyed a meal at the marina restaurant. Years ago they captained their trawler from Stuart FL to Georgian Bay. So, we shared lots of stories and had all kinds of laughs!
Great day!
